The SWCC opens registration for Fall season, launches campaign for community support

Entering its fourth season under the direction of internationally acclaimed opera singer Kara Bishop, the South Walton Children’s Chorus, or SWCC, has opened registration to music-loving kids between the ages of 9 and 13 for its Fall season.

The South Walton Children’s Chorus provides children in the area with an opportunity to learn music fundamentals, like reading music, and build their vocal ability and strength all the while developing lasting friendships and greater social skills and confidence.

“The arts and music are extremely important to any community,” said Bishop. “Music simply brings people together; in celebration, in tragedy, and it makes a difference in the world. It adds so much to our community, making it unique and special.”

Originally the program began with just seven students, but in just one short year, the program has expanded to more than 20 children, performed at elite functions--like the Beach Home for the Holidays concert at Pier Park in Panama City Beach-- and is set to perform at the upcoming Flutterby Festival this October.

“In the past, we have only had one final concert, but since our fans have grown, we will be performing at multiple different events this season,” said Bishop. “I love that our community is showing interest in providing musical opportunities for these amazing kids.”

And, for the first time since the program’s inception, the SWCC is accepting financial support from businesses and individuals, offering various levels and options for giving in its new Patron Package.

Due to the program’s fast expansion, the SWCC looks to the community for support through different levels of giving outlined in its new Patron Package, which can be found on the SWCC Facebook page or requested from

Children in the program rehearse once a week at Christ the King Episcopal Church on 393 North in Santa Rosa Beach each Monday from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and the program concludes with a Fall concert to showcase the skills learned.

To learn more about the SWCC and its upcoming Fall season, there will be an informational open house at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 480 N County Highway 393, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459, on August 20 from 5 to 6 p.m.

Registration is 75 dollars per child and closes on August 23. To register, visit Active Kids or the SWCC Facebook page.
